Celebrations at the end of the 2012/13 season, but head coach Anthony Posa is warning this campaign will be much tougher.

Beverley RUFC start the new season in National League Division 3 (North) on Saturday with a visit to Morley in West Yorkshire.

Final pre-season preparations saw them defeat a Scunthorpe side in a friendly match at Beaver Park last Saturday 40-15.

The make-up of the squad sees a number of comings and goings with the most notable losses being Dave Worrall and Gavin Gibson, who have both retired.

Both of these outstanding club servants will be missed but replacements are in place and early signs are that they will fit in well with head coach Anthony Posa’s plans.

As well as the victory over Scunthorpe, Beverley out more than 50 points past a depleted Bridlington team in a friendly.

Saturday’s game will be a stiff test for the Beavers as they have never won at Morley and they will be keen to avenge last season’s shock defeat there when they managed, aided by some dubious refereeing decisions, to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory with some bad decision-making in the dying minutes costing them the game.

Head coach Posa said: “We face a much different proposition this season than last. This league will be a lot stronger throughout than last year in North One and we will need to get used to tight, hard-fought matches week-in week-out.”

Lasr season Beverley won North One East by a huge margin of 22 points, scoring 1,229 points and only losing twice throughout the campaign. Morley were runners-up

Team selection was due to be made after training last night and the final selection can be viewed on the club’s website www.beverleyrufc.co.uk
