Junior Cricket - Under 11 girls

The team which represented East Yorkshire is, back from left: Lucy Panaby, Daisy Jessop, Holly Marshall, Georgie Robinson, Eleanor Kirby; front: Madeleine Arnott, Megan Davies, Laura McCoid, Adele Kirby, Beth Hancock.

Beverley Town CC hosted the first of this season's Yorkshire Inter-District Girls Under 11 cricket competition at Norwood Park.

The East Yorkshire team comprised several girls playing for the first time who gelled together and showed lots of potential for the future.

Although they finished without a win, East Yorkshire coach Peter Todd was delighted at how well they played, especially against West Yorkshire who had several Yorkshire players in their squad.

He said: "It was amazing how after only meeting each other minutes before the start, and never having played a proper game before, they kept going with high spirits throughout the day.

"To ensure everyone got the maximum games, some volunteered to play for North and South who were players short. This backfired when both teams beat us, but everyone enjoyed the game and that was more important."

The next round is in North Yorkshire on Sunday June 15, before which it is hoped that weekly training on a Tuesday from 6 to 8pm at Beverley CC, Norwood Park, will improve the team play and East Yorkshire will force a win. Any girl in the age range is welcome at the training sessions.
