The league leaders are set to entertain Great Ayton United this Saturday.

The pacesetters are seven points clear of TIBS heading into their second half of the league campaign, and, with a game in hand, United are one of the best-placed teams to mount a challenge to Lealholm’s leadership or push for promotion as runners-up to the runaway leaders.

Stephen Bedingfield restored the lead for Staithes Athletic five minutes before the half-time interval.

Matthew Hill made it 2-2 in the 65th minute as it looked like Staithes would have to settle for a share of the spoils, but late efforts from Arran Brookbanks and sub Josh Haley secured the three-point haul for the away team.

Staithes make the trip north to tackle the team directly above them in the league on Saturday afternoon, Grangetown Boys Club, although their hosts do have seven games in hand on Athletic in addition to a three-point advantage with 12 points to Staithes’ tally of nine.
