Former Scarborough FC manager Neil Warnock has replaced Jonathan Woodgate as manager of struggling Middlesbrough.

Woodgate leaves with just eight games of the season remaining, and with Middlesbrough outside the relegation zone on goal difference.

The decision comes just three days after Boro's worrying home defeat to Swansea City, the first fixture back after a three-month stoppage.

Warnock has been out of work since departing Cardiff.

The former Boro boss has managed 1,492 professional matches so looks set to hit the 1,500-game landmark in his new role at the Riverside Stadium.
