Drop worries deepen for Beverley First XI
York Senior League Premier
Beverley 1st XI, 116 all out, lost to Goole Town, 203 all out, by 87 runs
BEVERLEY Town 1st XI suffered a disheartening defeat at fellow strugglers Goole.
After putting the home side in on what appeared a juicy pitch, Alex Morrell (3-55) and Matthew Mudd both picked up wickets in their opening spells, though Goole still scored at a healthy rate.
Simon Roe swung the run rate in Beverley's favour, but with wickets in hand Goole were able to establish an imposing total of 203 from their allotted overs.
Goole were dismissed off an odd last ball when Olly Grantham ran out the last man as he went for a second run after recording one short - resulting in a wicket and no runs scored.
In reply, Beverley lost Tim Smith early for a duck, but Sam Bardon (36) and Andy Burton then consolidated.
But, after Burton was out, no one other than Bardon was able to establish themselves.
Skipper Alan Acklam made a valiant effort but ran out of partners.
