A 12-YEAR-OLD claimed a wicket with his first ball in senior cricket, and hit the winning run, for Beverley Town 4th X1 last Saturday.
Will Rudd’s memorable senior debut was against Skirlaugh in the East Yorkshire Alliance match.

York Senior League

Division One

Beverley Town 1st XI (5pts) lost to Heworth (30pts) by 6 wickets

Beverley Town 172 for 8

Heworth 176 fo
r 4

A FORMER Wold Newton player masterminded the downfall of Beverley in their first home match of the season.

Shannon Bowen, a new recruit to Heworth, made a fine unbeaten 78 as Heworth passed Beverley’s 172-8 in the penultimate over for the loss of only four wickets.

Olly Grantham (33) and Ian Gillyon (31no) were the top scorers in Beverley‘s total.

Division Two

Beverley Town 2nd XI (30pts) beat Sewerby (6pts) by 68 runs

Beverley Town 183 all out

Sewerby 115 all out

THE Town 2nd Xl continued their good start to the season with a comprehensive 68 run victory at Sewerby.

Captain Paul Fleming lost the toss and was duly asked to make first use of a green damp wicket. Beverley scored at a fair pace from the outset but lost wickets at regular intervals. Their score of 183 was mainly down to Graeme Taylor who was dropped five times on his way to 68. The rest of the total came from a number of batsman who got starts without having Taylor’s good fortune.

Sewerby also struggled on a cold day on the cliff top, with Matty Nicholson and Sam Horton both bowling excellent opening spells. Sewerby were eventually bowled out for 115 with spin king Rob Emery (4-24) causing all sorts of problems and slow bowler Iain Sugdon (3-23) continuing his excellent start to the season.

Credit must also go to the academy wicketkeeper Dave Fishwick who smothered everything that came his way behind the stumps.

East Yorkshire Alliance

Premier Division

Beverley 3rd XI lost to Sutton 1st XI by 6 wickets

Beverley Town 178 all out

Sutton 179 for 4

The 3rds were well beaten by Sutton at Norwood.

Batting first, Beverley lost an early wicket before Rich Thompson and Dave Parry put on a 50 partnership. Parry, riding his luck, hit four sixes before falling for 39, but Thompson held the innings together with partnerships of 41 with Kieran O’Brian (13) and 48 with Harry Bardon (23). After Thompson was out for 52 with the total on 140 for 5, it was left to Neil Rudd (three sixes in his 19) and James Broekhuizen (8) to take Beverley past the four batting points mark of 175 as they closed on 178 all out.

Beverley opened the bowling with youngsters Bradley Dobson and Guy Brumfield, but it was Matthew Mudd who profited most, taking 2 for 37 from 12 overs. Under 15 player Dobson and Brumfield took a wicket apiece but the Beverley total was not enough as Sutton won by six wickets with four overs to spare.
