Beverley put the disappointment of last week's 5-1 home hammering behind them and in doing so recorded a convincing victory. Cumberland, who play in the division below United, looked a decent side on paper but Beverley showed their class with a displ
ay of quality football.
With manager Williams returning from his break and Dave Ricardo taking the role of assistant, the team were well drilled before they set foot on the pitch.
Ex-Cherry Burton duo, Glenn Rushton and 19-year-old Mark Monaghan, were asked to play in the centre of midfield with Alan Laud and Michael O'Conell up front.
Phil Clark came in at left-back to make an impressive debut and Danny Cattle was asked to show his class on the right.
The game itself was, as the score suggests, one-way traffic. The fresh looking Laud had four goals by half-time and O'Connell also netted once.
The new look strike duo were working together as if they had been for seasons which will no doubt please the manager and fans alike.
Jon Ricardo and Mike Morris were never really troubled at the back as Cumberland opted to play one up front. Gav Northen continued to show he has lots to offer at right back, making tackles and then bringing the ball forwards to build attacks. Laud made way at half-time with James Botton joining O'Connell up front.
O'Connell struck early on with a sweet right-footed strike from the edge of the area before Glenn Rushton scored a hat-trick of headers in a magical 15 minute spell.
All in all a great performance, but its back to the league on Sunday where a lot of wrongs need to be put right. Including a minus four goal difference. Beverley travel to Brough to take on Blackburn Ferry where a win is vital for United. Kick-off 11am.
