East Riding County League Premier Division
Hodgsons 5

Holme Rovers 2

HODGSONS took advantage of their rivals’ inactivity with a win that takes them within two points of the Premier Division leaders - still with a game in hand.

As waterlogging hit a large number of pitches across the area, the game was moved from Hodgsons’ regular home turf at the Beverley Leisure Centre to the new all-weather 3G surface at Longcroft School.

The Tanners were looking to set the record straight after conceding a late equaliser when the two sides last met a couple of weeks earlier.

And Scott-Jon Tyler led the way to ensuring there wasn’t a repeat this time around with a hat-trick in the first 25 minutes to put his team 3-0 in front.

Adam Foster then had a penalty saved after Danny Cartwright, who caused the Holme defence problems all afternoon, was fouled in the box, before Holme pulled a goal back before half-time.

But the visitors missed a chance to get right back into the game when Matt Dexter saved a penalty.

Cartwright restored Hodgsons’ three goal lead after the restart with a cool finish before both sides were reduced to ten men - Jolly Thorne dismissed for Hodgsons following an altercation with the Holme fullback.

Holme scored a second goal 10 minutes from time, before substitute Jordan Dexter added a fifth late on following good interplay from Cartwright and Paul Silvester.

Danny Piwinski had another solid display at right full back, and just missed out on the man of the match award which went to Scott-Jon Tyler.

Hodgsons are on the road this Saturday when they travel to Howden Amateurs.

And the squad has also been boosted by the signings of Richard Rose and Wes Monterio from Trades and Labour.

l Hodgsons’ game was one of only a handful to survive the weather at the weekend. For a round-up of what was on and off, turn to page 30.
