A TRIATHLETE from Beverley has been making his final preparations this week to take on the best athletes that Europe have to offer.
Steve Lewis travelled to the Netherlands this week ahead of the European Championships which began yesterday, Thursday, in Holten.

He will compete for Great Britain in the men’s 30-34 category race, which is due to take place tomorrow, Saturday.

Steve is no stranger to pulling on the national vest, after representing his country in the 30-34 class at the last two world triathlon championships.

He came home in 66th place at the 2007 championship in Hamburg, Germany.

But he bettered that performance by finishing 33rd at last year’s event in Vancouver, Canada.

His performance there was sufficient to see him qualify for this week’s competition.

To find out how Steve gets on, see next week’s Guardian Sport.
