Anticipating a wet morning, the warm and humid conditions were a pleasant surprise for the 27 Beverley Athletics Club runners who took part in the inaugural Cottingham Headlands 10K, organised by West Hull Ladies Running Club.
The race, part of the Beverley AC's handicap league, took in a pleasant route around footpaths north of Cottingham, along the edge of Cottingham Parks Golf Club and back into Cottingham on Harland Way to finish at The Lawns.

Beverley AC took advantage of the good conditions, producing three prize winners.

Steve Jackson took the male 35 first prize, finishing in 39mins 59secs. Moira Armstrong took first place in the female 45 category with a time of 46:43, commenting "I enjoyed the race – our first 'hot' one of the season" – and was also the first Beverley lady to cross the line.

The ladies team also took first place in the female team category, with Moira Armstrong, Tina Wardropper and Helen Storr 7th, 9th and 10th respective ladies across the line.

Beverley's fastest male runner was Jonathon Leskiewicz, finishing 5th overall in 38:17.

The course did not naturally lend itself to personal bests, especially for many who had run the London Marathon only two weeks earlier. However, Lucas Meagor did manage to finish in 42:28 and record a personal best time, adding: "I found the cross country sections hard going, but the race was very well organised."
