Beverley's Guy Smith heads to Road Atlanta this weekend for one of the most prestigious sports car races in the world, Petit Le Mans.
The 10-hour endurance event will see him and team mate Chris Dyson behind the wheel of their prototype Porsche RS Spyder against some of the world's best sportscars and their drivers.
The pair have endured mixed results this season in the P2 cat
egory for less powerful but lighter and nimbler machines and currently lie sixth overall.
The race is the penultimate round of the American Le Mans Series and will be a chance to gather some much needed points as the championship enters its final throws.
The championship is North America's premier sportscar Series, catering for the one-off prototype machines of the P1 and P2 categories as well as race-prepared high performance road cars that include the likes of Porsche, Aston Martin and Ferrari.
Many of the teams also contest the Le Mans 24hours, taking on their European rivals in the world's most iconic race. Although none of the championship rounds are as long as Le Mans, the emphasis remains that of endurance with pit stops often comprising not just the changing of tyres and fuel, but the swapping of drivers too.
The race is live on Motors TV from 16:00, Saturday October 4. (Sky Channel 413 and Virgin Media 545).
