Beverley 1st XI, 116 all out, lost to Goole Town, 203 all out, by 87 runs

BEVERLEY Town 1st XI suffered a disheartening defeat at fellow strugglers Goole.

After putting the home side in on what appeared a juicy pitch, Alex Morrell (3-55) and Ma
tthew Mudd both picked up wickets in their opening spells, though Goole still scored at a healthy rate.

Simon Roe swung the run rate in Beverley's favour, but with wickets in hand Goole were able to establish an imposing total of 203 from their allotted overs.

Goole were dismissed off an odd last ball when Olly Grantham ran out the last man as he went for a second run after recording one short - resulting in a wicket and no runs scored.

In reply, Beverley lost Tim Smith early for a duck, but Sam Bardon (36) and Andy Burton then consolidated.

But, after Burton was out, no one other than Bardon was able to establish themselves.

Skipper Alan Acklam made a valiant effort but ran out of partners.

SCARBOROUGH batted first , after Beverley won the toss for only the second time this season, and scored a modest 135 for 6 in their 45 overs; Padmore top scoring with 41 not out.

Beverley’s bowlers were once again in top form, with Jon Lewis making an early breakthrough and Brad Dobson going for just nine runs in his first six overs.

Pete Parnaby then took 2 for 16 in 11 overs and Iain Sugdon 1 for 52 in 16 overs.

In reply Faisal Abid made 41 and Kevin Thompson 30 to help take Beverley within 30 of their target.

Rob Todd and Paul Fleming then saw Beverley home with 23 overs left.

East Yorkshire Alliance Premier

Beverley 3rd XI, 256 for 8, beat Hessle, 118 all out, by 138 runs

THE 3rds comprensively beat Hessle 1sts at Norwood.

Asked to bat first, stand-in skipper Paul Best and RJ Thompson put on 150 for the first wicket before Thompson fell for 47.

Best continued until he was bowled for 94. A mini collapse followed as Town lost three quick wickets, but Alex Nightingale (25) steadied the ship and some big hitting by Paul Guy (34 not out) enabled Beverley to set an impressive 256 for 8.

Hessle struggled against excellent opening spells by James Emery and Jamie Nowell. Nowell finished with figures of 3 for 37.

John Paul Guy then blew the rest of the batsmen away with 6 for 29 as Hessle were bowled out for 118.

Division Two

Beverley 4th XI, 116 for 6, beat Cottingham 2nd XI, 113 all out, by 4 wickets

THE 4ths still top the table at the halfway point of the season after another win.

Cottingham batted first on a poor wicket and made 113 all out, Harry Bardon leading the Town attack with 5 for 28..

James Broekhuizen took 3 for 15 and Neil Goforth 2 for 31, while Sam Horton was unlucky not to take a wicket.

In reply.
