Beverley Town enjoyed a successful start to the 2008 cricket season, with a win and a winning draw for the club's two top teams in the York Senior League.
An unseasonally bright day saw the 1sts claim 25 points against Sheriff Hutton Bridge, who had been relegated to Division One this season.
The wining draw was more creditable after Beverley stuggled to get going with the bat on a wet wicket. But after eventually reaching a respoectable 175 for 9, the unlikely bowling partnership of first team debutant James Emery and veteran Simon Roe put pressure on the opposition. They finished well short of the target with 104 for 7.
Iain Sugdon hit the right spot from the start for the Town 2nds as they claimed maximum points in Division Two with a six wicket victory against Bolton Percy.
Sugdon claimed five wickets before Will and Tim Smith each hit half centuries.
The 3rd and 4ths start out in the East Yorkshire Alliance this weekend, with the 3rds at home to Sutton and the 4ths away to Skirlaugh.
Sunday sees the Town 1st Xl away to Doncaster in the National Knockout competition.
