Beverley Squash Club is celebrating the success of one of its stalwarts who beat the defending champion to win an international squash tournament in Latvia.
Mike Straw won the +45 tournament by beating a home country player in his semi-final and then overcoming the 2007 champion from Austria in the final.

The international flavour of the Madona Squash Masters Latvian Open included players from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Ukraine, Russia, Germany and Austria.

Mike Straw frequently visits the area on business and decided to enter the competition 'just to see how good squash players were over there'.

He has played squash in Beverley for many years and is an active member of the club organising group. He plays in the Hull and District Leagues in a team anticipating promotion by winning its division this year.

Beverley Squash Club is in the grounds of Beverley Cricket and Recreation Club, Norwood. New members welcome, please contact Jonathan Rollison 07803 242556.
