Under 15 Inter District competition
South Yorkshire 146 for 8

East Yorkshire 147 for 1

EAST Yorkshire enjoyed a convincing nine wicket win against South Yorkshire after losing the toss and fielding first.

The visitors to Norwood Park won the toss and made steady progress before Twist (9) was caught at slip by Georgia Brown off Hannah Matthews. Westwood batted well but as the East bowlers bowled consistently well, wicket began to fall. Katherine Carson (2-17) Megan Storey (2-29) and Hannah McCoid (2-9) were the other wicket takers, but both Hannah Gosnold and Georgia Brown both bowled well without reward.

The other wicket came as the result of a cracking bit of fielding from Helen Craig on the mid-wicket boundary which saw Hillditch run out, leaving Westwood still not out on 76.

The East started quickly with Helen Craig racing to 15 in the first two overs, but Clarke got revenge by bowling her in the third over which brought Katharine Carson to the crease.

Katharine (28no) came in to support Georgia Byas (73no) who gradually built her innings, and although batting for the first time this season, showed what a class act she is. Her first 50 gave a much needed boost to the East Yorkshire side who had been beaten so convincingly by West Yorkshire the week before.

Rachael Byas, chair person of East Yorkshire Women and Girls’ Cricket Development Group, said: “What a joy it was to see the team bounce back after the defeat last week. The girls bowled and fielded exceptionally well, including the two youngsters, Katie Renwick and Emma Richards, who between them must have saved over 40 runs. Overall a great all round performance; well done to the team and the coaches involved."

East face North Yorkshire in the final district game on August 3 at Pannel Cricket Club.
