JOCKEY Neil Callan was the toast of Beverley racegoers as he steered the favourite to victory in the featured contest of Tuesday's meeting.
The 5/2 shot Everymanforhimself just got up in the final strides to deny Strike Up The Band by a head in the Levy Board Handicap over the minimum five furlongs.

The win was the second part of a double on the card which began when Black Falcon just
ified his 9/4 favouritism to win the mile and a half claiming contest.

The good run of form that Sledmere trainer Declan Carroll has enjoyed recently didn’t extend to the Westwood, as both of his runners finished well out of the frame

Imperial Angel could only beat two home in the opening two year old maiden won by Fastnet Storm.

And it was a similar story for Aspendale in the three year old maiden, as he finished well behind the Marcus Tregoning trained winner Wikaala over the extended mile.

Elsewhere, outsider Piper’s Song sprang a surprise in the St John’s Ambulance Handicap over ten furlongs, though the pace only began to quicken appreciably in the final half mile.

Mister Jingles beat March Mate by a head in the extended seven furlong handicap.

And Kings College Boy followed up his recent win at Carlisle with another success in the closing apprentice riders’ contest.

Beverley’s next meeting is the second of their evening fixtures this summer and takes place on Friday July 4.
