Village hall is refurbished

Have your say

Tibthorpe villagers have been fundraising for the last six months in a bid to to preserve their Village Hall and return it to an operational venue for community activities and social events.

Tibthorpe has approximately 120 residents and the only amenity is the Village Hall.

The village has no shop, church, or children’s playground, which is why the residents were determined to keep the Village Hall and stop it from decaying further.

Mr Clive Hill said: “The building was in a very poor state of repair, the kitchen, toilets, electrics and drainage were all in need of replacement to enable the necessary certification to be obtained for the use of the building as a community venue.

“Now that all the work has been completed it is hoped that the residents and those from neighbouring villages, both young and old will participate in activities in the hall, keeping the village alive and preserving an iconic village hall in the heart of the wolds.”

Mr Hill said: “In total £25,000 was raised and, in addition, donations of materials and equipment were received from many local businesses and individuals.

“The village would like to thank everyone who contributed to the effort including those who gave of their time.”

As a result the village now has a hall to be proud of with better facilities than could have been hoped for.

To thank everyone and to show off the wonderful new facilities, there will be an event on Saturday 6 June, starting with a five a side football tournament, followed by a barbecue and finished off with square dancing.
