The services at the surgery, which is run by Central Healthcare, will be moved to the company's Lawrence House and Peasholm sites.
A spokesman for NHS Scarborough and Ryedale Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) said it was not linked in any way to the coronavirus outbreak.

"This is because the practice is experiencing a number of staffing issues amid increased patient demand and it is not possible to deliver a clinically safe service from the Prospect Road site within the currently available staffing resources at this time.
"With services consolidated on to two sites the practice will be able to ensure patients receive 'an optimal service' and the practice believes the patient experience will be improved."
Central Healthcare has said that it recognises the temporary closure of Prospect Road Surgery will have an impact on some patients but says the distance to other surgery sites is relatively small and the area is well served by buses.
The CCG says it is supportive of the decision to consolidate services on the grounds of patient safety.
