A funeral service was held at the East Riding Crematorium on Monday, 4 August, for Mr Alan Danby, of Lowndes Park, Driffield, who died in the Riverhead Nursing Home on 28 July. He was 77.

The service was conducted by the Rev Andrew Ison & the organist was Mr Peter Maw.

Alan was born and spent a happy childhood in Nafferton. Moving to Driffield when he married Ann. All of his working life was at Shoulers butchers except for two years doing his national service it was at this time he met Ann. Earlier years of his working life was selling meat in the villages of East Yorkshire and then later years working in the shop. He retired in 2000.

Alan was a quiet, contented man and was devoted to Ann, they went everywhere together. He was a very loving father to Christopher and Graham and grandfather to Shelley and Sophie. He was always willing to help with any project they were doing.

Alan loved his home. and his garden was his pride and joy and he spent many happy hours there. He enjoyed everything to do with the military, visiting the warships in Portsmouth and many air displays.

Alan and Ann had many lovely holidays abroad, this country and cruising.

Alan had dementia for the last two years but was about town with Ann till 8 week ago when he became ill spending two weeks in Scarborough Hospital and the rest in Riverhead Hall Nursing Home. He will be sadly missed by all the family.
