Yorkshire Air Museum Launches Extraordinary New Exhibition for 2010

The internationally renowned Yorkshire Air Museum and Europe's Allied Air Forces Memorial, launches its major new exhibition on Tuesday 30th March 2010 entitled Pioneers of Aviation.

Join us for our press preview and an opportunity to photograph our very own 'Amy Johnson!' at 11.30 on Tuesday 30th March in Elvington.

With new displays and a fresh approach to revealing the people behind the well known names, the exhibition looks set to be a major attraction for visitors in 2010.

What's more is that the Museum is celebrating these stars of the skies' links with Yorkshire, adding a special twist to the exhibition. Family members of the pioneers will join the Museum team in March to meet the press and enjoy the hospitality of this acclaimed Air Museum.

With rarely seen images and unique displays, this extraordinary exhibition was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and has taken over 2 years to complete.

The exhibition, housed exclusively within one of the buildings of the UK's premier Bomber Command Centre, includes Sir George Cayley, the internationally acknowledged Father of Aeronautics, who lived near Scarborough; Amy Johnson, a typist from Hull who was the first female to fly solo to Australia and Russia; Nevil Shute, author and engineer on the R100 Airship at Howden and founder of the Airspeed Aircraft Company in York and Portsmouth;

Sir Barnes Wallis, designer of the Bouncing Bomb, the Wellington Bomber and R100 Airship designer based at Howden in Yorkshire, and Robert Blackburn founder of Blackburn Aircraft (now British Aerospace) in Armley Leeds, the world's first aeroplane production line.

Entry to this exhibition is free with an admission ticket: family (2 adults 3 children) 18, adult 7, child 4 (under 5s free), senior citizen 5. The Museum is open every day from 10am to 5pm.
