Farmer Paul Hudson, from Rillington, is organising a tractor road run on Sunday 25 May to raise money for a cancer charity that supported his unclethrough a fatal illness.

The event will take place acorss the Yorkshire Wolds and Valley and will involve a convoy of more than 50 tractors in proud procession as they take part in a Road Run to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

It will be the third annual event organised by Mr Hudson, who said: “we are raising money for Macmillan this year in memory of my uncle, Arthur Croft.

“He was from Duggleby and he was a keen vintage tractor and vintage ploughing enthusiast, and he raised lots of money for lots of different charities over the years.

“Sadly, uncle Arthur died from cancer last year He had absolutely wonderful support from the Macmillan team at Scarborough Hospital. Last year he came out with us on the Tractor Run, and he said it was one of his best ever days.

“I asked him if we were doing it again this year which charity we should support, and without hesitation he said Macmillan. I’m honoured to be able to organise this again this year in his memory, and I hope that we can raise as much money as possible for the charity which really did make such a fantastic difference to him.”

The event will start with bacon butties at 10am at Manor Farm, Wintringham, thanks to Mr and Mrs D Witty. The route is roughly 30 miles and wwill include Duggleby, Thixendale, Wharram and Grimston. It is open for anyone with a tractor. Entry fee is £12 which includes supper and is payable on the day.

“The past two years have been glorious,” said Mr Hudson, “We hope the weather will be on our side again this year. It’s a lovely day out, and a fitting tribute to Uncle Arthur. We’ll also be having a raffle with some excellent prizes, so as well as a great day, we’re hoping to raise lots for Macmillan.”
