Concerned members of Beverley Civic Society have criticised the work taking place on Beverley’s Saturday Market after diggers were used to lift cobble setts instead of removing them by hand.
The controversial project to lift the setts got underway last month, which is a key phase of the multi-million pound scheme to revamp Saturday Market.
East Riding Council’s director of environment and neighbourhood services, Nigel Leighton, assured the local community that the setts would be “taken up by hand”, but this video uploaded on Youtube show the contractors lifting the setts with a digger.
