Top playwrights step out from behind the scenes
LEADING playwrights John and Jane Godber are set to step out from behind the scenes and into the spotlight by taking the stage themselves in Hull Truck Theatre's forthcoming production of April in Paris.
John and Jane have worked together on many occasions as writers, winning two BAFTAs in the process, but this is only the third time that they have ever acted together.
John said: “We thought long and hard about it, but given that we are in the new theatre, and it is such a great play, we thought we should have a go. Jane and I saw the play performed in Swanland Village Hall last year and that prompted us to do it ourselves.
“The play is about an unemployed builder and his wife in a dysfunctional childless marriage who win a holiday to Paris for one night, although it was written nearly 20 years ago, it sounds like it could have been written last week.”
John is the third most performed playwright in the English language, behind only William Shakespeare and Alan Ayckbourn.
April in Paris will be performed in the Main Theatre at 7.30pm from March 4 to March 27. Tickets start at 11 and 2pm matinee performances will be held on Wednesday March 17 and Saturday March 27.
