Members of the Driffield branch of the Royal British Legion are poised to launch this year’s Poppy Appeal - and are hoping for bumper support from people of the town.
Branch secretary John Forrester said: “The time table for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and Services during 28 October to 10 November.
“On Sunday 3 November there will be the Children’s Remembrance Service commencing at 1030am beside the Chapel in the Bridlington Road Cemetery.
“This takes the form of a short Service followed by the laying of crosses by the children on all the War Graves in the cemetery which number over 100.
He added: “On Thursday 7 November the Driffield branch will have Charity Stall on the Market. On Saturday 9 November at 7.15pm there will be a Festival of Remembrance Concert in the Old Town Hall featuring Driffield Silver Band, ticket are priced at £5 each available at the door or on the Market Stall on the 7th.
“The Driffield branch RBL thank Mr & Mrs George Riggs for the use of the Old Town Hall and Driffield Silver band for volunteering there Services free to raise money for the Poppy Appeal. On Sunday 10th the Remembrance Service will be held in the All Saints Church at 2.30pm conducted by the Clergy of Driffield Churches Together, followed by the laying of some 30 Wreaths Welfare, Charity, Ex Service and Youth Organizations on the War Memorial a approximately 3.20pm. On Monday 11th November there will be an Armistice Service in the Garden of Remembrance at 1055am for the 2 Minute Silence to be observed at 11am. A Wreath will then be laid by the Town Mayor Coun Heather Ventner on behalf of the Residents of Driffield, Crosses will be available for those who wish to pay their own Silent Tribute in a small Garden of Remembrance at the side of the Memorial. On 8 and 9 November, street collection will take place. The British Legion are most grateful that Tesco and Witherspoons are allowing us to have displays in place to collect for the Poppy Appeal. On the Saturday we thank the owners of Pocklington Carpets for allowing us to use their frontage for the Anderson Shelter and Austin 7 to be on display.
