Slimmers look forward to party season

With just a few days to go until The New Year, the party season is in full swing and some slimmers in Driffield are ready to celebrate in style after losing almost 11st between them and winning their local groups competition.

Miska Stark and Kelly Lee Denley, were voted their group’s ‘Miss Slinky 2013’ by their fellow members and are now waiting to hear if either of them have scooped the national title and the £2,000 shopping spree prize. Slimming World’s annual ‘Miss Slinky’ competition recognises members who have undergone a huge transformation by becoming slimmer and more confident – and who look great in their party outfits too!

Mum of five Miska 40 attends the Monday morning group and said: “I couldn’t believe it when everyone voted me as ‘Miss Slinky’. I haven’t felt “slinky” in years but – thanks to Slimming World – I am now, and it feels great.”

Kelly-Lee 35 from the Thursday night group, has dropped several dress sizes dress sizes and lost over 4 ½ stone, since joining the Thursday Slimming World group in September last year. Now she’s looking forward to slipping into a slinky party dress for the festive season after being aptly named the group’s ‘Miss Slinky 2013’.

Monday evening group winner Teresa Barmby said: “With Slimming World you don’t follow a diet temporarily and then go back to your old habits when you get to the weight you want to be. I’ve got a completely new lifestyle now, I’ve learned how to make delicious and filling healthy meals and I never feel deprived because I can still have a glass of wine or a bar of chocolate if I fancy it.

Another Monday night group winner Mary Addy, was thrilled to win and loves attending the Slimming World group every week: “Everyone’s been so supportive, I can’t imagine not going to my Slimming World group, I’ve made so many friends there and I don’t think I could have done so well without their support . We have a real laugh too – it’s a great night out!”

Consultant Shirley Sowersby, who runs the Slimming World groups in Driffield, hopes the group winner’s achievements will inspire lots of other people. “I hope people realise, that whether you’ve got a little or a lot to lose, slimming down can make a huge difference to your confidence and self-esteem.

If you’re inspired to lose weight too, come along to a Slimming World group, which runs every Monday at 9.30am, 5.30pm & 7.30pm at The Methodist, Westgate, or for more information call Shirley on 07999 371611 or visit www.slimmingworld.com

Shirley’s top three Christmas/New Year slimming tips:

At the buffet, go for things like lean slices of ham or beef, chicken with the skin removed, salmon or hard boiled eggs for a healthier way to fill up. Vegetable sticks, fruit and wholemeal sandwiches are a good way to satisfy your appetite too, but try to avoid too many fried foods or snacks, high-fat sandwich fillings like butter and cheese or dips made with mayo where you can.

If you want to let your hair down plan your choices ahead of the party and choose spirits and low calorie mixers or a wine spritzer. Try alternating alcoholic drinks with glasses of water or low calorie soft drinks to avoid over-indulging, stay hydrated and reduce your overall alcohol intake.

Christmas and The New Year is a time for having fun, so let your hair down on the dance floor or introduce some fun party games that get you moving.
