Serious charges

A MAN accused of 10 sexual offences has been told his case is so serious that it must be heard by a crown court.

Mr John Rodger Cooke, 77, Meadow Close, Beeford, appeared in front of Bridlington Magistrates Court and denied all 10 charges.

Presiding magistrate, Alan Hardman, told him: “We feel that it is not within our powers to deal with it here, so we send it to trial.”

Mr Cooke, who was represented by solicitor John Seagrave ,will return to Bridlington Magistrates Court for a committal hearing on Wednesday October 17.

He was granted conditional bail with the instruction not to have unsupervised contact with a child under the age of 17.

Mr Cooke faces the following charges:

1 Incite a girl under the age of 16 years to commit an act of gross indecency

Between Feb 13 1998 and Feb 13 2000; 2 Incite a girl under the age of 16 years to commit an act of gross indecency between Feb 13 1998 and Feb 13 2000; 3 Incite a girl under the age of 16 years to commit and act of gross indecency between Feb 13 1998 and Feb 13 2000; 4 Incite a girl under the age of 16 years to commit and act of gross indecency between May 20 1998 and May 20 2000; 5 Incite a girl under the age of 16 years to commit and act of gross indecency between Feb 26 1999 and Feb 26 2002; 6 Incite a girl under the age of 16 years to commit and act of gross indecency between May 13 1998 and May 13/1999; 7 Incite a girl under the age of 16 years to commit and act of gross indecency between May 13 1999 and May 13 2000; 8 Indecent assault on a girl under the age of 16 years between May 13 2000 and May 13 2002; 9 Indecent assault on a girl under the age of 16 years between No 24 2003 and May 1 2004 10 Offender 18 or over engage in non penetrative sexual activity with a girl under 13 between May 1 2004 and Nov 24 2005.
