Rotary Club raise £700 for Haiti appeal

BEVERLEY Rotary Club held a charity 'Call my Bluff' wine tasting evening in St Mary's church hall attended by Rotarians and friends.

It was a very enjoyable event with wines supplied by Roberts and Speight and despite the best efforts of three ‘wine bluffers’ to fool the audience, several managed to correctly identify five of the six wines on offer.

The event raised 700 to be used to help earthquake victims in Haiti.

Guest speaker at one of the club’s weekly meetings in February was Dr Donald Sharp, Acting Director and Hon Consultant Psychologist of the Oncology Health Centre, Castle Hill Hospital.

Dr Sharp gave an illustrated talk on the recent history of the centre and his role within it.

He spoke of the recent substantial improvements in the treatment and support of its patients which truly place Hull at the foremost of all UK cancer centres.

After his talk the club presented him with a cheque for 300 to be used specifically for the welfare of patients visiting the excellent oncology drop in centre at Castle Hill.

The money was raised at the club’s meetings by way of small fines paid by the Rotarians for minor ‘offences’ – all in fun! A further amount was raised by the raffle of a fine art print donated by the Rotary Club of Albi in France with whom Beverley Rotary Club have a close relationship.
