Rock Challenge Final for school

YOUNGSTERS from Beverley's Longcroft School and Performing Arts College will take to the stage to star in a national event next weekend.

The school is one of three from the Humberside Police area which have qualified for the first ever National Rock Challenge Grand Final to be held at the Sheffield Arena on Saturday July 11, where they will stage a spectacular performance based on the rags to riches story of Eva Peron.

The show will feature the top six schools from the Rock Challenge northern region and the top six from the southern region.

It is the first ever final which sees schools from the north and south competing in the same event and will feature 1,200 performers and back stage crew.

The Longcroft School students won their place in the final as a result of their success in the Northern Grand Premier Finals of the competition, held at the Grimsby Auditorium in May.

The event in Sheffield will also include an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for World’s Biggest Air Guitar.

The record attempt will potentially involve 3,000 young people from across the country who will be going along to the show to join in, as well as supporting the competing schools.

This year Rock Challenge has reached across the world, involving young people in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Dubai, Japan, Europe and the UK. It aims to bring young people together to have fun and be the best they can without the need for tobacco, alcohol or drugs.

Humberside Police is very proud to be associated with it, and Chief Constable Tim Hollis said the young people who are taking part in this year’s event are an inspiration to others.

“Once again young people have shown us how committed and hardworking they are,” he said.

“All of the young people involved in this event are outstanding and the culmination of all this work for the national final event is set to be a spectacular showcase of youth talent.”
