East Riding residents can once again save money on their energy bills through YORSwitch, Cheaper Energy Together as registration is open from 1 April to 10 June.
The collective switching scheme has already saved East Riding residents a total of £175,000 and average savings are increasing, as collective switching becomes more popular with both consumers and suppliers.
Councillor Symon Fraser, cabinet portfolio holder for environment, housing and planning at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “Some East Riding residents may still be paying too much for their energy and some have not switched energy suppliers for at least three years.
“YORSwitch provides a hassle-free way for residents to find out if they could be saving on their energy bills. Many people who would not normally switch suppliers have now successfully switched through using YORSwitch.”
One resident Mr Simon Cawkill of Hornsea who switched through YORSwitch last year said: “I will save around £200 on my energy bills. I think it is good that the Council are doing this to help the local area and bringing the community together through collective switching.”
The scheme works by gathering together people who are interested in finding out if they can save money on their energy bills. YORSwitch organises an auction for energy suppliers and the supplier providing the cheapest tariff will send an offer to all registrants. The offer is obligation-free and registrants do not have to switch. However, for those who do switch, YORSwitch takes care of the whole process and ensures that residents will not be without energy during the switch.
Interested residents can register for free and find out more information at www.eastriding.gov.uk/yorswitch. All the information required to register can be found on your latest energy bill. If residents do not have access to the internet, they can visit their local customer service centre or call (01482) 393939.
