A funeral service was held at the Parish Church, Driffield on Monday. 23 September for Mrs Daisy Welburn of York Road, Driffield who died suddenly at home on 12 September. She was aged.
The service was conducted by the Rev Robert Amos and the organist was Mr Martin Salter.
Daisy was born 88 years ago on 19th February, 1925 to William Edward and Annie Barr. She grew up in a close and happy family with her siblings Lily, Margaret, Jean, Helen, Eric, Roy, Alec, Alan and Dennis. She attended school in North Dalton and then at the age of 14 left and went to work for the Caley family. She joined up at the age of 18 and served locally as a Land Army girl.
She met William ‘Bill’ Welburn and they married at North Dalton Parish Church in October 1945.
Their son Christopher was born the following year and they moved to Tenants Wold House Farm.
Throughout her life she was never afraid of hard work, caring for the needs of the men working on the farm, cooking, washing etc. and bringing up baby Chris. There was always a welcome from Daisy with lovely things to eat.
Whilst still at Driffield Wold Daisy enrolled as a nurse at Driffield Hospital where she worked for many years and became well known for her care. After her retirement she nursed Bill through Alzheimers until his death.
She just enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, she enjoyed reading and knitting and was a good homemaker, she enjoyed the open air and a good walk. She was involved with many things at the Methodist Chapel, especially the dinners with Gwen Young until ill health forced her to give this up.
She will be greatly missed.
