Sixteen members of the Driffield-St. Affrique Twinning Association spent a week in the homes of French families.
The hosts organised a programme of events which included a visit to Carcassone followed by a visit to a Limoux vineyard and a wine tasting session. A day was spent touring the Larzac plateau villages and there was a tour on a trailer through herds of bison. The trip also included a visit to a cutlery making factory at Laguiole and a tour of a chateau. A highlight was a self propelled journey on a velo-rail. 7 km of old railtrack with small railcars holding four people and two of the people pedalled the car along the track through magnificent scenery. (as we travelled we thought that this would be a wonderful tourist attraction for Driffield if a length of track could be laid along the old line from Driffield to Fimber roundabout). There were two days when host families arranged a variety of events for the family they were hosting plus picnics and 3 evening meals in some quite unique venues. The photo shows the English contingent with their French hosts at the first official reception in the Salle des Fetes in St. Affrique. This was followed by dancing. The French will be returning to stay with host families in the summer of 2014. Anyone who would like to have more details are cordially invited to attend the next twinning meeting on Monday 30 September in the small hall at the Community Centre at 7.30pm. A picture presentation of this year’s visit will take place and there will be wine and nibbles. For more information please contact the Chairman Keith Harris on 01377-254172
