It promised to be a foodie feast - and people flocked there in their thousands.

Crowds estimated at 20,000 poured into Beverley for the town’s seventh Food Festival.

Basking in warm autumn sunshine, visitors enjoyed the tastes and smells of some of the finest produce that the local area has to offer, from ostrich to sloe sherry, from chorizo to chutney.

There was also an opportunity to watch cooking demonstrations by some of the region’s top chefs, and to sample some of the treats they cooked up.

The festival was held by Beverley Town Council in association with the town’s Local Food project From Field to Table, part of the Big Lottery Fund’s Local Food scheme.

Town Clerk Helen Watson said the event had been a huge success.

“There was a real feelgood factor around Beverley that day - the town was buzzing,” she said.

“The variety of stalls offered a real flavour of East Yorkshire and some were sold out by one o’clock. The shops, cafes and pubs were busy, it was really good boost for the local economy, generally it was a good day for Beverley.”
