Two recruits from Beverley have followed in their family’s military footsteps by enlisting to join the Army.
Lawrence Wright and Ashleigh Saltmarsh were among 13 men who swore their Oaths of Allegiance at the Hull Armed Forces Careers Office in Wenlock Barracks this week.
Lawrence’s grandfather served in the RAF, while Ashleigh was influenced to join the Army by his fther, who served in the Royal Logistics Corps.
Lawrence (20) will join the Royal Signals, while Ashleigh (22) will join the Royal Military Police.
During their training at various establishments across the cuntry, all 13 new recruits will learn and develop essential soldiering skills, including how to work together as a team, administer first aid and operate a variety of weapons and technology in the field. They will also take part in rigorous physical training, which will help them increase their fitness levels and build stamina.
Warrant Officer Class Two George Henderson, Senior Recruiter of the Hull AFCO, says: “All 13 candidates have chosen challenging careers, from which they will gain many diverse skills while getting the opportunity to travel around the world.
“They will gain valuable life experience that they just wouldn’t get in any other walk of life.”
