Contractors will arrive soon to start work on an upgrade of water mains at Beverley
Yorkshire Water has commissioned utility specialists Laing O'Rourke to replace cast iron pipes with modern plastic ones and fit a new valve to monitor water pressure between Beverley and Keldgate.
The work will start close to Sloe Lane and progress towards Queensgate for approximately 50m, taking approximately three weeks to complete.
Local businesses will be open as normal and drivers will still be able to reach Broadgate, Beverley Westwood and the local golf club.
However, sections of the Cartwright Lane will be closed to through traffic from Saturday, April 4, and drivers will be asked to follow local diversions while work is under way.
"The new mains will reduce the risk of bursts and help to ensure the water supply remains reliable and among some of the best in the world when it comes to quality for future generations," said project manager Carol Fairbrother.
"However, we would acknowledge there's bound to be an element of disruption, for which we'd like to apologise in advance, and we would like to assure all our customers that we will be doing everything possible to get things back to normal as soon as we can."
Neither Yorkshire Water nor Laing O'Rourke employees expect to need regular access to people's homes and residents are urged to be on their guard if they're approached by strangers claiming they need to be allowed in.
Genuine employees of both companies carry identity cards, which can be checked by telephoning 0800 1 38 78 78. Further advice on how to combat bogus callers is also available on Yorkshire Water's website at yorkshirewater.com
