The Driffield Youth Zone has now opened its doors to Year 7 students after discussions with its current members
and the club’s volunteers.

The move by the popular venue is to help the Year 7 students as they make the huge transition into Year 8 after the summer holidays.

Youth Zone lead worker Gordon Barber-Bee stated that: “The first six months have been great and the feedback from the community, both business and parents has been really positive.

“We are now in a position which enables the Youth Zone to respond to the feedback of our young people.

“It has been through extended discussion with the youngsters, our volunteers, and the Methodist Church which supports this initiative that we are able to extend this opportunity to Year 7s.

“Through our negotiations with the current members we have agreed that Year 7s can attend between the times of 6:45pm and 8:15pm.

“It is felt that the inclusion of Year 7s in the last school term before the summer break will assist in the transition that takes place into
Year 8.”

Mr Barber-Bee added: “There have been fliers left in school with all the relevant details about the Youth Zone.

“This, along with the backing of Driffield Times and Post and the paper’s readers, is likely generate more support for the Youth Zone.”

If you would like more information or want to find out how “you can make a difference”, through volunteering three and a half hours a month, then feel free to contact Gordon on 01377 256809 or 07717336747, alternatively you can pop down to the Youth Zone any Thursday between 6:45pm and 8:15pm.
