A MOLESCROFT couple decided to celebrate their birthdays by helping others.
Instead of gifts for their 80th birthdays, Dennis and Corinne Carlyle requested family and friends donate money. They in turn have donated 150 to the Gian Foundation.
The Foundation sponsors the education of underprivileged children, primarily, but not exclusively, blind or orphaned. It aims to educate these children to both a degree standard and in practical skills, so they can support themselves in the future.
The charity currently supports children in Liberia, Delhi and Calcutta.
Money raised through the Foundation has also been used to buy a visual reader for The Centre for Visually Impaired Students at Hull College.
Corinne said that she and her husband decided to ask for donations instead of presents because, at 80, they felt they had plenty of possessions.
The Gian Foundation's next fundraising event will be a charity golf day at the KP Club at Kilnwick Percy, on Saturday, September 11. Entry for teams of four is 120. For more details contact Aaron Pheasant on 01759 303090 or Yashpal Anand on 01759 302832.
