Alfredo George Mario Merigo, of Grimsby, appears before Hull Crown Court accused of the murder of his wife, Linda Merigo, of Driffield, East Yorkshire

A MAN has appeared in court charged with killing his estranged wife. Alfredo George Mario Merigo, 43, of Weelsby Street, Grimsby appeared at Hull Crown Court on Monday morning.

Mr Merigo is charged with the murder of Linda Merigo, 40, who police said died as a result of multiple stab wounds outside her home on Clematis Close, in Driffield on Wednesday September 1.

No plea was entered by Mr Merigo, who was wearing a black T-shirt and spoke only once to confirm his name.

He was represented by solicitor Harold Bloomfield.

Prosecuting barrister Mark Kendall invited Judge Michael Mettyear to adjourn the case to November 15 when a plea and case management hearing will be held.

Mr Merigo was remanded in custody until that date when he will re-appear at Hull Crown Court.
