Seal went back to the sea
I am a teacher at Nafferton Primary School and I am a Voluntary Marine Mammal Medic and a Co-ordinator for British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) http://www.bdmlr.org.uk/
On Tuesday December 18 after school one of the children in my class came back into school with his Mum to show me a picture of a seal which they had found in the Sheep field in Nafferton!
Quite an unusual event as I’m sure you can imagine.
From the picture in your paper I can confirm that it is the seal pup which was seen in Wansford.
With the help of some of my school colleagues we caught the seal and then relocated it to a local beach. The pup was in good condition although it was a little underweight.
Hopefully it will gain weight quickly now it is back in the sea.
If people find a seal they can ring 01825 765546 (Office Hours) or 07787 433412 (out of office hours) & a marine mammal medic will attend to assess the animal.
Seals can be very dangerous and also carry diseases which are transmittable to humans and dogs so if a seal is found it is best not to approach it & wait until a trained medic can attend.
