Save our setts

Dear Sir,

We strongly protest at the removal of Beverley’s unique stone cobble setts from their existing position in the market place. Their removal will not enhance the centre of Beverley or improve safety of pedestrians in any way.

There are enough areas of old Yorkstone flags already provided for pedestrian access around the outer edges of the market square.

It is scandalous that the Council is prepared to abandon this area of historical importance under the guise of modernisation and health and safety.

These setts greatly enhance central Beverley’s ancient and unique appearance.

As the saying goes “You wont know what you’ve lost till it’s gone.” Please reconsider and listen to the wishes of the residents of Beverley who are proud of their town and let’s not be governed by non residential councillors.
