“Mind that pile”
Dear Editor,
I am a keen walker on the Westwood pasture and have written in the past (16/4/2011) about the state of the Westwood.
My main concern is the amount of dog mess. Myself and my children often go for walks and often use the phrase “mind that pile”.
I have approached a dog owner once and enquired if they were going to pick up after their dog and was received by a torrent of abuse such as “this is common land I can do what I like.”
I have no issue with dogs on the Westwood it is nice to see them playing happily running in and out of the bushes its SOME dog owners I have the issue with.
I also write regarding the “Westwood concerns” letter by Mike Singleton March 8th 2013. I feel his bashing of the golf club is unfair and incorrect.
It took me all of 10 minutes of online research to find the Westwood pasture is around 500 acres, the golf club only uses 23 acres.
The pasture master has to agree to everything the golf club does on the Westwood, such as the 160 new trees the golf club has recently planted on the pasture and the cutting of the hedge rows.
The golfers themselves have to adhere to strict rules when out playing, if you are on the course then you will only be advised by the party playing for your own safety.
Just walking up on the Westwood today there is a sign situated near to the entrance to the car park advising golfers of their obligations of the common land rule.
Everyone in Beverley knows of the golf course, if people take caution around those areas and people picked up after their animals the Westwood can be used as it should be and by everyone.
Megan Cook.
