Don’t visit animal circuses
I AM very relieved that Anne the beaten circus elephant has been rescued and is now at Longleat.
It is worse than sad, it is evil, that such a magnificent animal as Anne has had to endure a life of 55 years spent mainly in cramped confinement and in shackles, made worse by her having arthritis, when those of us with arthritis know that we can only get more comfortable by moving around a bit. Anne could not, making her pain unbearably worse.
Elephants are pack animals and are family orientated and belong in the wild.
We should respect that and leave them there. But poor Anne was kept segregated from her own kind and from her natural wild behaviour and forced to perform tricks to so called entertain humans.
All the pro-animal circus people, I note, have been using the old “emotive” argument that without animals in circuses we deny children the chance of seeing them.
Nonsense. This is said for vested interests that have been derived from animal usage and abusage. Because good parents should not be teaching their children that it is good or acceptable to capture wild animals and imprison them in the miserable confinement that is circus life.
No, we should be teaching our children how wrong it is to catch wild animals in this way and teach them to do unnatural tricks.
What a great opportunity this offers to teach our young ones how cruel and mercenary mankind can be.
All eight of my grandchildren aged from seven to 17 are dead against animals being in circuses and get upset about the badness of it all. Why have we humans used and abused every animal that we know exists for the so called benefits to mankind? How much more does selfish mankind intend to take from this planet as there is nothing much left to abuse. There is certainly not much feeling around in this evil world and I personally have no hope left in me that it will ever get much better.
I hope Anne finds some love and peace at long last after her prolonged years of torture. But bless her, she is but one animal out of billions upon billions that are tortured. Just think of the life of battery hens as an example. Don’t visit animal circuses nor buy battery eggs. Then with no end consumers it will stop. Simple.
