With schools breaking up, holiday bags packed and warm temperatures on the horizon, the cold winter months couldn’t be further from many peoples’ minds. However, a warmth scheme available to vulnerable people across England and Wales, including residents in East Riding, has revealed it has already received hundreds of referrals this summer from people in need of heating help.

Following one of the hottest Junes on record, npower Health Through Warmth, a scheme that works with charities and other organisations to assist vulnerable homeowners with heating and insulation, has taken more than 230 referrals from across England and Wales – a 50% increase on June 2013.

Elaine Midwinter, npower Health Through Warmth scheme manager, comments: “Even though temperatures this summer have already reached a balmy 27 degrees in parts of the country, the npower Health Through Warmth team continues to work with its partners to ensure vulnerable homeowners are equipped with working heating systems to prevent them being caught out when the cold returns.
