Compensation for sewer smells
It is understood by those concerned that Yorkshire Water is about to issue information to local residents about their proposed compensation package for the smells emanating from sewers in Saltend last year.
John Dennis, ward member for South West Holderness is delighted something has eventually happened, saying: “It has been five months since local MP Graham Stuart, portfolio holder Jane Evison, ward member Mike Bryan and I met with senior officials of Yorkshire Water at County Hall.
“At that meeting I demanded they should consider ways of giving something back to the local communities who have suffered so much discomfort in recent years, in particular last summer when the smell from the sewage works at times was appalling.
“Many people had to cancel barbeques and other garden events, which is just not acceptable.
“Hopefully the £3.5 million investment in the new odour control unit will sort out the problem down at Saltend once and for all.”
