Yorkshire Water’s investment at Beverley sewage works to reduce odours is on track.

The company has completed its first phase of investigations in preparation for a £15 million investment in the site to bring it up to date and a meeting was held with East Riding Councillor Dominic Peacock to update him on progress.

The site has been serving Beverley since the 1960s and its most recent upgrade was in 2000. Since then it’s seen a big change in the nature of the town’s sewage. This investment is aimed at ensuring the works can better tackle the increased levels of domestic waste water and is ready for future predicted housing and business changes in the area.

Lee Pitcher, Head of Waste Water comments: “We’re committed to ensuring that the investment we make at Beverley waste water treatment works is fit for purpose for the future of the town.

“That’s why we’re spending time thoroughly investigating and designing the improvements. At this stage we expect that it’ll include a number of new tanks and other treatment facilities.

“We would like to thank Councillor Peacock for meeting with us and for his interest and involvement on behalf of local residents”.

Councillor Dominic Peacock comments: “I originally contacted Yorkshire Water over my concerns about the lack of information and timescales for this massive renewal project of the Beverley Waste Water Treatment Works.

I want the residents of Beverley and Woodmansey to know the timescales and phases of work so they can benchmark the progress of this vital renewal of the Treatment Works. I am delighted that this prompt meeting with senior Yorkshire Water Managers has produced this outcome.

I am looking forward to regular public updates on the progress and not least to its completion in 2017”.

Physical work on the site will start in early 2015, initially to investigate the suitability of the ground for construction of new facilities. The investment is due to be completed by the end of 2017.
