Chamber Choir founder Alan to bow out
THIS year's annual Christmas concert by the Beverley Chamber Choir will be the last to be conducted by its founder and musical director Alan Binnington.
Alan, pictured, has announced that he will be stepping down after the choir's Good Friday concert in April after 10 years in the role.
He will continue his work as organist and choirmaster at St Mary's Church in Beverley, a post he has held since 1985.
This year the Beverley Chamber Choir presents a programme of English music in its Christmas concert, which will be held in Beverley Minster on Saturday December 13, at 7.30pm.
Professional harpist Rachel Dent returns to Beverley to accompany the choir in Benjamin Britten's popular masterpiece A Ceremony of Carols. Beverley Minster is the setting.
The Mass in G minor by Vaughan Williams has not been heard in Beverley for some time and it is the first time the Chamber Choir has performed it.
It is written for eight-part double choir and a quartet of solo voices.
The choir will also sing a selection of shorter carols by English composers, including Harold Darke, Gustav Holst and John Rutter.
Tickets are available from Beverley Tourist Information Centre at 12 for reserved seats, and 8 unreserved.
