WORKS UPDATE FOR A164 HUMBER BRIDGE TO BEVERLEY ROUTE IMPROVEMENT SCHEME
Despite the recent period of inclement weather, works to construct the A164 Humber Bridge to Beverley Route Improvement Scheme have progressed at Skidby and in the Cottingham and Willerby areas.
Pipework, forming part of the scheme’s drainage system, has been installed in the vicinity of the Willerby roundabout, near the Ketch Pub, and between the Willerby and sports centre roundabouts.
Construction of the two gabion retaining structures at the site of the old railway embankment, and adjacent to Willerby shopping Park, are nearing completion.
Widening of the existing embankment between the sports centre and Castle Hill roundabouts has also commenced, whilst the widening of the embankment to the north of Castle Hill roundabout is well underway. In addition, construction of the new footpath/cycleway link between the Castle Hill Road and Eppleworth Road is ongoing.
At Skidby, the two main activities being carried out are slewing and lowering the existing telecommunications cable and the diversion of an existing water main both of which are now nearing completion.
During the coming month, drainage and earthwork operations will continue at Willerby roundabout and between the Willerby and Castle Hill roundabouts. It is also expected that elements of night working will take place under temporary traffic signal control, to allow various excavations across the road for the installation of drainage pipes and service ducts.
Drainage works are also programmed to commence in the vicinity of the Castle Hill roundabout.
At Skidby, completion of earthworks and the installation of drainage work will take place during the next month.
Maintaining one lane of traffic in each direction through the works during the day mitigates the impact of the works on road users, with temporary traffic signal use restricted to during periods of night working.
Dave Waudby, head of infrastructure and facilities at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “Despite the poor weather conditions experienced over the past few weeks, the improvement scheme along the A164 has progressed as planned.
“When finished, this scheme will benefit motorists greatly by reducing congestion on what is the East Riding’s busiest road.”
All businesses along the route remain open for business as normal.
