To celebrate the fact that the average person spends three years of their life on the loo, Yorkshire Water is wanting to find out just how much the region's folk love their toilet.
To do this, the company is launching 'Loo've Been Framed' – a competition to find the region's most kitsch and chintzy lavatory.

To enter, those people who think their latrine is anything but bog-standard just have to send in a photo of it, or upl
oad it themselves onto the company's specially created online toilet gallery – otherwise known as the 'Loo'uvre' – before the deadline date of 15 February. Following this, an online vote will be used to decide who owns the region's fanciest 'throne'.

The privy which gains the most votes will be declared the region's most loved loo, with its owner – in addition to being flushed with success - receiving £250 in vouchers from interior design specialist Laura
Ashley.

Trevor Birch, network disruption manager at Yorkshire Water comments: "For decades, people have been unashamedly accessorizing their toilet, whether it be adding matching covers and mats or simply dressing up their toilet roll holder.

"Such creativity has never been celebrated before, so we're launching
this competition to celebrate quirky bogs and unearth the region's best
looking and most loved toilet."

However, while there's no doubt most of the region's folk look after
their loo, the company has seen a growing trend amongst a small
minority of customers for using it to dispose of their unwanted rubbish
– with proof of such abuse flowing into Yorkshire Water's works on a
daily basis.

Trevor continues: "We're definitely seeing more rubbish coming into our
works, with a lot of that arriving as a result of being flushed down
people's toilets. We get hundreds of nappies, cotton wool buds and
sanitary products every month, as well as some rather more bizarre
items such as jewellery and sets of false teeth.

"Through our 'Bin It, Don't Flush It' campaign, we're trying to
highlight the problems that can occur as a result of people treating
our sewers like a rubbish bin, and letting them know how they can play
their part in preventing sewer flooding."

To enter Yorkshire Water's 'Loo've Been Framed' competition, customers
can send their photos - clearly marked with their name, address and
contact number – by email to marketing@yorkshirewater.co.uk, or post
them FAO Matt Thompson, Press Office, Yorkshire Water, Halifax Rd, Bradford, BD6 2LZ.

They can also submit them themselves by visiting
www.yorkshirewater.com/loveyourloo.

The deadline for entries is Monday 15 February. Customers can vote for
their favourite picture by visiting yorkshirewater.com/loveyourloo. The
winning photo will be announced on Friday 5 March.
