WORK on the £6 million Driffield Sports Centre is still on track as the future of the existing site hangs in the balance.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is currently reviewing the future of the existing outdated sports centre and surrounding buildings, on Manorfield Road as work on the new state-of-the art centre complete with a six lane 25m pool, 100-seater spectator area and Tone Zone gym, goes ahead.

As council spokesman said: "The Driffield Sports Centre Project is on programme with a completion date and opening in the summer. External works are on-going, as are service installation works."

It is hoped work on the new centre, which began in May last year, will be completed ahead of schedule and the existing sport centre will remain open until the new centre is officially opened.

The spokesman added: "The future of the present sports hall and buildings is still under review."
