Swinemoor orienteering

Swinemoor has been confirmed as the location for the next winter orienteering event organised by the Humberside and Lincolnshire Orienteers (HALO), which takes place tomorrow (Saturday).

Swinemoor is to the east of Beverley. Access will be at Grid reference TA 050415 off the A1035 to the west of Hull Bridge.

Organiser Neil Harvatt thanked the Pasture Masters for permission to hold the event, saying: “Our original venue had become unavailable and the Pasture Masters were kind enough to allow us to hold the event there at short notice.

“It has meant a lot of last-minute planning, as a coloured orienteering map of Swinemoor did not exist, but I am confident that we will be ready in time.”

The winter events are aimed at beginners to the sport but always include a technical course for the more able. There will be four courses as normal: white (junior beginners); yellow (improving juniors); orange (adult beginners and experienced juniors) and technical (experienced orienteers). Starts will be anytime between 1-3pm.

Entry fees are £2 for adults and £1 for juniors. This includes free hire of the chips which are used for the electronic timing of the event. Harder courses can be attempted for no extra charge after successful completion of the easier courses.

Due to the current adverse weather conditions, there is a possibility that this event may be cancelled. If this happens, information will be posted on the HALO website at www.halo-orienteering.org.uk

The Swinemoor event will be the fourth in HALO’s 2012 Saturday league. The next event is at Beverley Westwood on 10 March.

Further information is available from the website or by emailing neil@halo-orienteering.org.uk

HALO also runs a weekly club night at Beverley Longcroft School on Mondays (6.30pm-8pm) during term-time. New members always welcome.
