On a shout in East Yorkshire

IT might seem as though Driffield has reached the depths of winter already but a play about an East Yorkshire lifeboat crew looks set to really rock the boat.

Theatre crews at Hull Truck have recreated the howling wind and lashing rain to add atmosphere to On A Shout, the latest play by Dave Windass which opens later this month.

The play tells the story of the dangers faced by the crew on every mission, enhanced with dramatic sound and lighting effects.

On A Shout follows the lives of crews past and present at The Point, focusing on coxswain George (Edward Peel) and his colleagues – cocky Cooky (Richard Standing), Portuguese (David Barrass), studious Dobbo (Matthew Stathers) and their first female member Jo (Laura Doddington).

The action, directed by Gareth Tudor Price, follows the brave crew on ‘shouts’, but also looks deeper at the effects of life at sea, the friendships formed and lives lost.

On A Shout is supported by the RNLI and coincides with the charity’s main fundraising event of the year, SOS Day.

Performances run from Thursday January 24 until Saturday February 16 at 8pm.

Tickets are priced between 6.50 to 16 and are available on (01482) 323638.
